who has wired up a diesel pump?

and how'd you do it?

after two hours at the dealership today and then 5 minutes on the computer i learned that ford has, in all their wisdom, eliminated a constant power aux to the bumper

in the past i've always rigged up a pin connector and plugged into the trailer harness for power

at this point i'm thinking about buying a longer cord and plugging into the grey/orange (i think #5) upfitter 40amp switch but i'd love to hear about an easier way

The gray with orange stripe is upfitter #4. It's really not hard to run a wire to any place on the truck. No big deal if the wire you were hoping for isn't exactly where you want it.

I would route a 40 amp upfitter wire too. The 12 volt in the plug is load sensing for battery charging. I have not ascertained for sure how well it will charge my two deep cycles on the RV trailer. I would think you would be looking at atleast 8 gauge wire and preferably a plug for ground and positive to prevent any arcing, grounding issues. Are you running a nozzle pump or line into the main fuel tank, be sure to match the rewiring gauge to that of the pump, but atleast 8 gauge for 40 amps, and you need atleast as big a ground wore to a secure location, with wire loom protector for that kind of juice. If you have tHe fifth wheel prep, perhaps you can access that plug, but again same power issues as above.

I have a F350 cab and chassis, the trailer hookup for this was a 7 wire pigtail.
In the 7 wire pigtail there is a 12 volt aux power for the trailer. My truck did not have a fuse. Put a fuse in and worked. I guess the production line was running low on fuses.

you were right but wrong. Grey with orange wasn't the 5th but it wasn't the 4th, either. 5 and 6 are distinctively larger wires than the rest. Grey with orange stripe was up fitter #6

If you need a constant power supply even with the truck off #5 and #6 up fitter can be made to stay on all the time. One of those should handle what you need.

I can tell you from experience. I used Gray with Orange stripe and it is upfitter #4. Watch the Air Lift installation video. It's pretty clear.

you caught me, I was just lying to make friends

probably what ford was doing when they wrapped this little sticker around the grey/orange wire that lists gy/og as the output wire for relay #6

i'd imagine it's just pure coincidence that it's the #6 upfitter switch that powers on my diesel pump now, too. go figure.

I actually like it being switched power, means nobody can help themselves to my diesel if I don't lock up the nozzle

am curious as to how you would go about that though

You run the power wire of the correct gauge to the wire going to the upfitter switch. Then you run the ground to a suitable ground source on the truck. Flip the switch and it should come on. Thats if it is a 12v pump.

You are right. I was remembering the gray/orange and gray/brown incorrectly. I tapped gray/BROWN which is upfitter 4 as shown in the photo below and correctly stated on the video. This is just another reminder for me to use solid reference material instead of my Alzheimer prone gray matter. The picture below also shows the difference in wire gauge between the two.
