I bought a 08 F-250 powerstroke a couple days back. The truck has been converted to a single turbo, it has aftermarket intake and exhaust, egr delete, but i Have no idea about the tune. I feel like someone doing all that would also have bought a tuner, but that is just my opinion. How can I find out? I really just want to make sure it has a mild tune that is ideal for longevity that is also compatible with the upgrades it already has. Any advice for a newbie would be greatly appreciated.

 

You might start with the manufacturer of the single turbo, they might have an idea on a starting point.

The only thing I'm not sure of here is the aftermarket turbo. Would that require a truly custom tune to work right? I'm assuming all these tuning companies write their canned tunes for the stock turbo setup...or maybe that doesn't matter.

 

Speculation as I have not done this myself......, In general terms, the link between the sequential turbos I'd fixed, indicating the the ratio between them is fixed and from a engine management perspective they can be monitored as a single device. Though, altering a component as significant as the turbo would imply that a specific or custom tune would be required. From reading the single Turbo offerings, they all require a specific tune though none of the offerings deliver said tune....

 

I guess my best option is to find a shop near me and let them put a custom tune in it? Im near even sure we have a diesel tuner around here.

 

H&S is one of the vendors that offered a single turbo, though EPA has shut them down - you might call ThoroughbreadDiesel and see what they have to say, they offer many options for a single turbo setup.
