6.4 hesitant to start

So I woke up this morning, got ready for work like I do every day. Went out to warm my truck up and it started fine. Got to work and left my truck at the shop for 8 hrs and when I returned it started fine. I went to my girl friends house and left it for about 3-4 hrs and when I went out to start the truck it just clicked like it was a dead battery. So I had my girl friend come out side to jump my truck. Probably waited 20-30 mins and it very slowly started to crank but it would die out to the clicking noise of a dead battery. So I put a meter on it with the jumpers connected and it read 14v on both battery's. When I started it it jumped down to 6-8v. Then I took of the cables and read the battery's and it said 14v and it jumped down to 6-8v again. With the jumpers off I tried to start it and white smoke came up from behind the turbos and a weird smell sorta like a burning smell came with the smoke. I tried to start it again and it started but the crank was kinda like a whining noise. If I had to describe it it seemed like the started wasn't all the way there. I drove it home and tried to start it again and it just kept cranking with that whining noise. Someone pleas help me I'm out of options

I would unhook the batteries and check them individually. I believe you have a bad connection either at the batteries, ground connections on the block, or the starter. That's where I would start. Dropping to 6-8 volts after it starts tells me you may have a short in there somewhere. A bad connection can make the starter solenoid do funny things too.

You can unhook the positive cables and check the voltage between the batteries and engine.
