I think 400K is outstanding. Grats on keeping your truck running that long. Hope to get that many miles out of mine (if I live long enough). Currently at almost 45K and 5 years old, so...

(fingers crossed)

my opinion.. the metal missing from the camshaft lobes are from wearing thru the hardening of the metal.. then micro-welding from friction

my 6.2L only has 152,000 miles..

are you willing to offer what your hour meter is reporting ? just for my information..

I don't think it failed due to oil quality or maintenance. Imho, just too many miles on a cam (s) that is designed to endure x amount of cycles. And I pushed it to the limits. And beyond. Btw,it never smoked..
go figure.....

Good stuff. Truck should be good for another 400k now!

Couldn't really see the cam in the photos. Looks like the roller on one of the lifters is fretted real bad so guessing that cam lobe is toast.

I'll guess that motor spent a lot of time at 3000rpm or more so 400K+ miles is not too shabby ! That motor doesn't owe you anything. Thanks for the posting...has to make all the 6.2 owners feel pretty good.

....taps....

That's pretty dang good for a gas motor that's actually been worked its whole life.

Would be interesting to see cylinder walls and under their bearing caps.

I usually don't step in here, and worse, never change thread titles, but in this case, I had to, for two reasons.

One, the diesel guys might take it as a sign of failure.

Two, the diesel guys need to see that mileage in the thread title

And nice pictures, great addition to the forum, thanks!

The engine oil spec is interesting: Ford switched from 5W-20 to 5W-30 oil for the 6.2 starting with the 2016 model year, and 5W-30 is specified for our 2017 6.2.

Great job with your old engine, and best of luck with your rebuild!

Ed, if you don't mind sharing, how much is the ford reman? Just curious to what it cost vs. a 8k+ diesel option, which 8k will not buy you a diesel replacement long block.

yes as soon as I get the truck back I will get the exact numbers but I think it was like 10,000 hrs. and about 2,500 hrs. idle time. I'll get back to you with the correct numbers

you make a good point I am not real sure what it calls for as far as oil on this remanufactured motor. I will start out with 5W20 but if it really calls for 5W30 I will use that instead we will wait and see

you are making an excellent point and observation here. Because I have an account here in Houston at a local Ford dealer I was able to buy the motor for about $3,900 they have a brand new one for $4,800 both are long blocks. The remanufactured engine I bought has a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty whereas the new one has a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. I think the only difference is one Motor is a brand new block and the other one is a used block bored over.
