Truck won't start sometimes

2004 F350 dually 6.0 diesel. Truck will not start after driving it for a while. Have to wait ten minutes for it to fire off. It turns over but sounds like its out of gas. Its happening more and more. Whats the problem.

You probably have a high pressure oil leak in the HPO system.

Do you have any way to read parameters or live data like ICP, IPR and so on?

Maybe one of the Mods will get this over to the 6.0 world...

Will this problem get worse and do I need to replace the pump all together?

It will get worse, but you may or may not have to replace the pump. You need to get some gauges or scanner that can read live data to find out what your oil pressure (HPOP) is and then determine if you have HPOP system oil leaks or not. Is your truck an early or late '04? If the ICP sensor is on the passenger side valve cover it is a late '04 and 1 big possibility are the stand pipes and dummy plugs, the early '04 was a different setup and uses a different stand pipe, but they can still have several places for a HPOP leak. There is a lot of info on the net about testing for leaks and you really need to do that before just throwing parts at it. That being said you should have the 1st gen. high pressure pump and that is a weaker design than the '05 and newer, if you do need a pump I would consider ONLY the Adrenaline pump from DieselSite, expensive but Factory pumps are now all remans with a very poor track record. Another thing to examine closely if and when you get into the motor far enough to access the pump is the J tube from the pump to the branch tubes, they sometimes have a hole worn in them from lack of clearance to the HPOP cover. If your truck is over 100K on mileage I would recommend a new pump even if you find some leaks as that seems to be the threshold where the pumps start to fail.
