Been searching this forum along with others and this is not a very popular topic.

Have been looking for a good floor console for old green. Just something with solid cup holders and some storage. The yeti sits ok in the pull out cup holder, but it just seems like it wants to break.

After looking a lot, this seems like the best option:


Don't care for the price, though....


Do you guys have any recommendations?

I picked up a 2008 center console and installed it a number of years back. The cup holders are much better than our original units, the lid height doubling as an arm rest is perfect positioning for me, and the cavernous storage inside the unit is leaps and bounds beyond what came in our trucks. I did not like the chrome covered plastic trim around the cup holders, so I removed them and used some sand paper and satin black plastic paint and then reinstalled them, and they look perfect now. The floor mounting brackets bolt into inner two seat mount bolts, under the seat mount brackets, and this requires you to sue a couple of washers under the brackets on the outside seat bolts to "re-level" the seat, but the install is otherwise quite simple.

The only long term complicating factor for the '08 style console is that you have to remove your arm rests, and then you have an unattractive opening in the seat back cover where the arm rest used to attach. Since I replaced my seat back covers, I was able to reduce the unattractiveness by having the new hole cut to fit the arm rest stud perfectly. This stud is also drilled and threaded on the end, so all I need to do now is cut a simple "cover" out of either wood or plastic, paint it to match the interior color, and screw the cover onto the stud for a completely OEM look. As it is, the stud only protrudes about 1 inch right now and is not really noticeable (or maybe I've just gotten used to it).

AutoNation prices put a brand new '08 front console at about $270. I honestly do not remember paying over $200 when I got mine. I glanced on eBay, but did not spot anything better than AutoNation's price. Might be able to find a good price on a good condition used one at car-part.com, but even there the ones I've seen are rather pricey.

I looked into the 08 center console, but every now and then we still use the center jump seat. Wife did not like the idea of taking it out.

So, the quest for a decent floor console has been on. I have seen some really good custom built ones. Would be nice to find a place we can order one from.

 

OK, David. I didn't realize you were still running the jump seat and/or wanted to keep it. That makes it a lot tougher, for sure. I'm at a loss on improving that particular scenario.

 

truck toys offers a cup holder attachment that hooks to the front of your center folddown in the down position. To use the center seat, remove the cup holder &raise the center back. not a floor console but when using the center seat - no console in the way. I love mine

 

Why not build your own out of MDF board and add what you please? You can then upholster it to your liking or could go to an auto electronic store and have them build you something nice.

 

That is probably the best option, but was really hoping to just buy something.
