1998 Expedition vent window motors and drivers seat

1998 Expedition Eddie Bauer 4 x 4

hopefully the last two things I need to fix to be done for now.

The vent window motors on both sides will work to open or close maybe once or twice and then will not work again until I tap on the motor or window. I have greased the movable parts and didn't help. Is there anything else be done to make them work consistently? Can the motor be opened and cleaned

While I was under the dash fixing the shift lever indicator I was up against the drivers seat controls and the seat went all the way back and now will not move forward. You can hear the motor turning but seat does not move. All the other controls work. Is there anything that can be done besides replacing the seat ?

What years of seats will interchange with the 1998?

Did you try pushing the seat forward while operating the switch?

As far as the vent window goes, I ended up replacing one of them that wouldn't work with used on off ebay. Works perfect now. With the seat, you could probably find a new rail system and motor in a junk yard. There is a gear in the motor that tends to go get stripped out leaving it stuck in one position. You can take it apart and put a replacement gear in, but that would probably have to come from the junk yard too.

Thanks to all
Will try pushing the seat and see if that works if not back to the junk yard.

Will look into used motors for the windows - not really wanting to put any more $ into this project. Was hoping there might be something else to try as the two motors do work when they want to.

Pushing on the back of the seat while engaging the motor worked.

The vent windows will have to remain closed until I can find cheap motor replacements

thanks everyone

jcweis1....to be honest, even though I fixed the window I haven't had it open except for when I fixed it and maybe one other time just to see if it still works. I am not really sure why I would even need it open. I don't think you are missing out on some magical experience or anything..lol. I am just the type of person that if its on the truck I want it to work.

There should be some sort of stop to keep the seat from traveling too far. It sounds like that stop has broken off.

swagfu- I am the same way - I know most likely will not use the vent windows but would like them to work

alloro - thanks maybe I can use a hose clamp for a stop but haven't looked at it close enough yet

THANKS!

Do the mass air flow sensors go bad that often?
the code is telling me I need one, but I will get a new one and try cleaning the old one first just hate to spend the money
