1957 Ford F100

Hi Fella's

Newbie here, I recently acquired a 1957 F100 at least thats what the title and vin number say. The old timer I purchased from told me it was a 1958 since there were 2 headlights on each side but the vin and title are in disagreement with that assessment. I will enclose a picture of the data plate for further examination. I am also wondering if my truck was initially black. The old timer said the paint was original with some reddish primer bleeding thru but the trim tag says A RED? Thanks for the help...

Michael

It's what I call a put together truck. That bed side trim is from 61-64, although the bed style is correct. The front bumper and wheels are from something else, the grille is 58. Custom cab emblems missing from doors. No doubt had the grill swapped if the numbers show 57. Does the ID number on the title match the plate? It might not be the correct glove box door or title. I bet if you scratch around on those front fenders you might find other colors too. Not a bad looking pickup but the old timer didn't know much.

There were no bedside mouldings until 1963 and 1963/64's have narrow mouldings with the center section painted red.

These bedside mouldings are 1965/66, as they are much wider.

Wheels appear to be from a 1990's E150, hubcaps (black painted outer ring with FORD MOTOR COMPANY in center): 1973/76 F100/150.

Grille is 1958, parking lamps are 1957/58.

VIN on OP's Rating Plate: F10K7R-23880.

F10 = F100 / K = 272 2V / 7 = 1957 / R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant / 23880 = 1957 Numerical Sequence of Assembly // Production Date 2E7 = Assembled May (E) 2, 1957 (7).

This truck may have been tu-toned black and red because COLOR code A is Black then it says RED

1957 Ford f100

Thanks for the info Guys,

The title does match the plate and trim tag so I guess I have a put together Ford. The panels are nice and she appears rust and rot free. I have a late 70's 400 that runs and sounds great. I am still happy with the truck and hope to make improvements as we go along.

Regards,

Michael Platt

A lot of these old trucks got saved with what parts they could find. It's still a good looking solid truck and I wouldn't be ashamed to drive it anywhere.

Some states titled vehicles in the year they were made,as '58s made in '57 . Can't say when this practice was stopped.

Don't take this as fact, but the gentleman that sold me my 59 F100 told me that the styleside 57-60 type beds which were factory installed on the later (early 60s) trucks had different bed mounting bolt spacing than the earlier trucks did.

He was talking about long beds specifically, and I never indecently verified it, but you may want to check for extra mounting bolt holes to somewhat verify your assembled truck theory.

A friend of mine said that the front bumper on that truck was 57 58? It has no provision for the lic. plate. He has found those bumpers on about 8 trucks that he has parted out. Plus he has a book with pics of that same bumper on a 57. I purchased 2 of those bumpers from him. Not to say that is gospel but that what he has run across the past 55 years of messing with fords.

Hmm, could be.All I've ever seen on the 57-58 is the channel iron looking one.

1957/58 F100/350 front bumpers are different than 1959/60 F100/350 front bumpers.

Somehow it just didn't look like the 59-60 bumper. Does seem to fit nice though.

I am not sure what the bumper is off of or if it is an aftermarket, but it is not a 59/60 as there is no place for the plate. Plus the gap between the truck and the bumper has been cut down significantly. Others have this bumper as well. Her is a random pic from a google search. It also had the gap shaved. It looks nice, so for me it is good, but I can't tell what where it came from.

You have a nice Franken-Truck, Drive and enjoy.

It would be interesting if you could find the part number on the bumper or bracket. Are the brackets riveted on like the 59-60 bumper?
