Ok so I have another issue. This is one of three right now. Had the truck flat bedded home due to a seized rear caliper. Carrier bearing is causing vibration, will replace that this weekend. My question is does the ac compressor spin even if the ac or heat isn't on? Mine wasn't spinning today when the truck was idling. Should it always spin and just not be "engaged " my ect was quite high too but I thought that was due to the locked up brake. As always any insight is appreciate.
One more thing. I Can do this myself yea? I have a buddy that can evacuate the system. Then is it just take the old one out and put the new one in? I've read you have to flush the system or something? Or can i just swap in the new part?
If it's full of metal flakes and stuff, it needs flushed.
Dehydrator, orifice tube, compressor, might need a condenser. Not a hard swap, two hours plus evacuation and then vacuum it down, add oil and Freon and go.

will I be able to tell if there are metal flakes or not? And any special oil? That is for the compressor yes? Sorry never worked on ac before. How will I know if the condesnor is bad?
The clutch spins only when your in A/C or defrost, any other position it doesn't. Could be low on Freon, check the pressures before you rear it apart.
so it doesn't spin with the serpentine belt? It just sits still and the belt rides over it? Mine was stationary truck idling belt was just running over the pulley. Ac was off.
If A/C or defrost is on, pulley turns, any other position, it just runs over the pulley. The clutch isn't engaged, it just sure there. Turn on A/C or defrost, it locks the clutch and the compressor goes to work.
This truck keeps me on my toes for sure once I think I get a handle on the engine the accessories start acting up. Hopefully my seized brake was the cause of my high ect or I'll be troubleshooting that next.

Did the high ECT's start only after the caliper stuck?
Not sure that one stuck caliper would cause high ECT's, but then I can't say it's never happened either.

yea i took it to a job and back like 45 minutes each way no problems 190-194 ect. Started creeping up once I got back driving around town started noticing it hanging around 197 then 199, 204, 206, all the way to 215 ect. Have good flow into the degas, only thing out of the ordinary was the fact that my rear caliper started smoking so I had to flat bed it home. Water pump is new, doubtful it's the thermostat but that's new, just did a flush with distilled water and cascade and woulda drank what came out when I finally put new elc coolant back in. It's been all normal for the past week just today with issues.

FYI. If it's in the vent/floor position it also engages the A/C clutch on manual controls.
OP, to clarify, you should see the ribbed pulley spinning with the belt at all times when running. The face of it is the clutch and if that is spinning in unison with the pulley then that means it's engaged.
