2X. I bet there is all kinds of rust and gunk inside the block's cooling passages. This rusts out freeze plugs from the inside and plugs up radiators. Flush the living crap out of it.
Sounds like there is no thermostat in there right now to help the engine warm up.
BTW, Ford used 13# caps. Not sure about the aftermarket world.

It will need a good flushing, a while back someone told me a little dish detergent will do as opposed to buying radiator flush, while others have said thats a stupid thing to do because it will affect the seals.

I will have to check for a thermostat when I can after work. Also it has an oldish looking napa rad cap rated at 11lbs.

the suds produced from dish soap I think would be a nightmare to get flush out, I use a flush chemical designed for coolant systems

Originally Ford listed part number C9AZ8100A for Bumpsides. It was 13#. The current replacement part number is E5TZ8100A. Which also is 13#. Still available from your local Ford dealer. The higher the pounds of pressure the cap holds in the cooling system equals a higher coolant boiling point. But 13# is the max for older cooling systems. The newer vehicles with a cross flow radiator take 16# caps. So down flowing radiators take a 13# and cross flow radiators take a 16#.

So in general, I dont know how the oil got so brown. The previous, now replaced thermostat was completely stuck shut. Since Ive put a couple hundred miles on it so far going back and forth to work, driving around town, hell I even towed a friend of mine uphill to her place. It runs strong, it isnt eating oil, and its holding coolant. The only thing I noticed is if I gas it uphill the exhaust is like a noticeable grey cloud but then again the muffler and tail pipe is rotted out. Hmmph what do you guys think?

Sounds like the float level is too high in the carb.

Its really bad, as soon as it starts going uphill the exhaust is grey and really noticeable. It looks really bad. I suspect the piston rings but whenever it starts up the oil pressure is in the high end while warming up, and then stays in the middle on the road. At least, last week it dipped down a bit but evened out after not too long.

Grey smoke could be a carb problem. If it's running rich it will do that. Blue smoke is more an indication you have a ring problem. You could try a can of "stiction eliminator" from hotshot secret in it. This stuff is supposed to clean out oil residue and could clean out the ring grooves as well. Did you get your misfire cleared up too?

Yes I did, took the timing light to it and timed it 6* BtDC
So I'll go through the carb and take it out for a spin and see how it does. Thanks

im pretty sure its burning oil, oils disappearing real quick, after its warmed up whenever i give it a bit of gas that grey cloud loomes over the highway behind my truck. This sucks. Someone told me to maybe use non detergent oil because the detergent oil slips past the rings.

Sorry to hear that you still have the problem. I have watched a few videos on youtube about sea foam cleaner. You might just give that a shot. A lot cheaper than a rebuild and it may even make it run better. Search youtube and watch them you will be amazed by the results. Good luck!

Replace the intake valve guide seals for your oil problem.

Use a mechanic's vacuum gauge hooked to intake vacuum.
