88 4.9 valve adjustment

Ok so this Motor has blown a head gasket after it was supposedly rebuilt 50k ago

And I am beginning to think it was because of my valve clearances but I am not sure.
Some say since it has hyd lifters it doesn't need any adjustments at all
And the Chilton manual says the allowable clearance is 0.10-0.20 in and the desired clearance is 0.125-0.175

Now keep in mind this Motor has 580 k on it and it has been decked twice.
Now my question is am I making this a big deal is it really just that simple there is no adjustment or is the Chilton manual the correct way to go and also if it is correct where do I get shorter push rods to loosen my clearance since they are to tight because i have talked to the machine shop where it was machined and they have shorter pushrods but they are not short enough to put my clearances in spec.

I is intake
E is exhaust
Also my pushrods are all
10.14
The machine shops shortest is a
10.136
so the total under size is a 0.22

My current clearances on a 10.14 rod in firing order.

Were your hydraulic lifters bled down when you did the measurements? Did you turn the engine to measure the different valves?

Those are tight clearances, but the main problem with that would be burnt valves, not blown head gaskets.

And yes they where bleed down and measured in firingorder rotating the motor 120 degrees at a time like the book says.
