any other things you guys use to try and push through a lower offer our anything else I should know that has yet to be mentioned before I head out.
Trying to talk him down on some possibly bogus information? Hopefully he knows his stuff. Helping you get a lower offer on these premises is like helping someone steal something. No thanks.

Yeah I'm kind of with Byron here. Intentionally hoping to find stuff wrong so you can use it as a bargaining chip is the wrong mindset to have going into buying something. If you can't afford the price to begin with, you don't try and negotiate down to what you can afford. Everything you have provided information wise on the truck sounds like he is about right for price (despite me personally not willing to pay that much). If he will go lower, awesome, thats better for you. And performing those tests, if he doesnt mind, is also pretty cool. But your mindset is something detectable on a forum, so in person I'm sure he's going to know you are going to try and lowball him.

Yup, and I have sold a couple of trucks in the last year. Buyers like you come along and I don't even pay attention. Maybe the guy will work with you though. I would be surprised if he does.

Sorry guys not trying to be a dick (and thank you for calling me out), these are all good things to know. I've just never owned a diesel before and I'm getting a bit terrified but I think it's just a learning process. From what I know (limited) and what I want I think the price is fair and I have cash in hand but have also never dropped 10k cash on anything before.

a few other questions I'm in CA and I asked if the truck was a CA truck originally. The owner stated he bought it in CA but was unsure. Is there a big difference in the split shot injectors that a CA truck of this year was to be equipped with or would I be better off if it was not a CA truck? Is there an easy way to tell?

I have never seen a Cali. truck, but with that said, I'd think the emissions sticker would say Ca or federal on it. The Ca trucks have a "Starship Enterprise" looking dampner on the engine mounted fuel pump.

Put your fingers down behind the fuel bowl, cold engine like Todd said. Most likely you will have fuel and oil on your finger tips and show the owner. Tell him its got a leak, saved me $500 on one of my trucks.

And yes, the leaks are nothing to be scared of, but it is a bargaining chip. Not 1000s of dollars, but a few hundred for sure. They are easy to fix, but time consuming. Don't be petrified, just be honest and have integrity. That will get you farther than anything else.

I bough mine last year. Seller was firm on price.

I never had a diesel or a full size truck before. Needed one since the ex bought a 5th wheel camper my taco could not ever pull. I didn't want a newer diesel with all the emissions.

After lots of time here and packed up with knowledge. I think this beast will last me a long time. It will need some TLC but I like to tinker with things.

There is always something at that mileage. Engine is probably OK but look at other things such as tires, front end and brakes, often overlooked in the heat of want. All those items can add up quickly in out of pocket money. If tires are bald and interior trashed such as wires hanging everywhere, run away. Just my experiences over the years.
