There is a guy that has this transmission for sale. I was looking to get a backup for my truck, but I am not sure what it is. He says it is a C6, but the top two bolt holes measure 8.5" from center to center. The C6 in my truck appears to measure about 7.5". Also, the bell housing is shaped different. Any help would be appreciated.
It is a C6, no doubt about that. It's either for a 460/429/400/351M, or it could possibly be for a 6.9/7.3 diesel. I'll have to measure my 7.3 pattern to compare.
Wait--look at the second image with the tape measure. Look real close at how that tape sits. I think that trans is really closer to 7 3/4" wide at the top holes.
Of course a tag number off it would be utopia at figuring out what it's out of. After that the 2 digit stamping code off the manual control body, color of stripe off the vacuum modulator, and the 2 or 3 digit code off the torque converter will help me I.D. it.
It looks like it is the 335 series. The top bolts measure 7 3/4 from center to center and it has the same bellhousing as listed in Ultraranger's middle pic below. Thanks Ultraranger. There is no tag, of course. The number on the drivers side of the transmission reads D7AP7006-AA. I took the pan off and the oil was clean and had no metal.
