1990 Wiring Harness, Roof Rust A-pillar

Evening all,

Looked at 1990 F150 short bed 4x4 today, 5.0, manual...parked about 3 years ago with no "known" problems. Spare rear end in bed...so must be some problems.

Anyway, squirrels/rats/mice got into wiring harness in engine compartment up front on drivers side...anyone ever fix one of these? Major PITA? Should it be something to steer me away from the truck?

Rust...body looks great...amazingly so. But, there is rust in the roof near the A-pillar and the drip rail on both sides in the corners. Looks significant in a spot or two. Anyone have any experience with repairing this?

It's a good price...but want to make it a daily driver not a daily sitter...

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are you a good mechanic? if so buy it.

If not, dont touch it. Sounds like someone is yanking your chain about no known issues.

and wiring can be a literal effing nightmare.

I'm not trying to be a smart azz about it, but IF you have to ask about these items, it is probably more than you are able or willing to undertake...

Well, since I have completely rewired a 1978 F100 and resurrected from the grave....I doubt it's over my head. May be over my time constraints though.

But, I am of the mindset that it's better to gather all your information prior to stepping into a project before dropping my money on a boat anchor...and outside of my 78 I haven't worked on wiring on the "newer" trucks.

Additionally, roof rust at the A-pillar isn't a common item that I have encountered...no do I have vast experience at cutting and welding. Doesn't mean I can't learn or do or pay someone else to do it. Just trying to get a feel if anyone else has seen these issues.

Isn't the premise of this forum sharing information and educating people vs not adding anything to the thread?

Jeez...I used brag about this forum when I rebuilt my 78 years ago...about how helpful people were and information shared.

I worked on an older 78...rewired the whole thing, then found a wiring harness and rewired it again. It was a bear finding a matching wiring harness for the 73-79 trucks...is that still the case in the 90's?

Hypothetically, I should be able to find the chewed wires...and just replace the pig tail sections. Have you had experience with this? I think that is easier than splicing in wires.

Well, the owner...is just one of those guys that lets stuff sit when it gets some age on it. You would not believe the amount of vehicles and tractors he had at his property. He doesn't want to work on anything and just buys new.

Thanks for your input.
