NICE FIND!!
Engine bay looks nice! Where was it delivered from and how about a few more pics.
What are the quirks your discovering? The only quirk im aware of is when it just dies for no apparent reason only to be that silver control box on the drivers inner fender. Mine quit luckily in my driveway that was in 1986, replaced it and it was off and still running to this date but i have a spare in my tool tray with a designated nut driver for insurance if it ever quits again.
I'll be driving it again this spring ( blue F350 pictured) after I've just completed a cab off resto and it setting 13 yrs behind my garage.
Can't hardly wait for the snow to disappear.

Was a 1996 frame off restoration. Don't think much happened to it after that but collect dust. Purchased in S.C. from my father in law. Ignition module acts up, but so far it's been a good ole truck

getting ready to pull the motor out so I can put in a IFS and as long as I have it out I have to change oil pans for a fox body and am also putting in a mild cam for now. The 400 was in it when I purchased the truck. I have done a lot to it and am doing more. The more I read on the 400 the more I don't mind keeping it. I have had a lot of people give me crap about it but if they are a good motor just need some tweaking .

Looks like some time/money went into that. What are you going to drop it in?

Dropped it in my 78 f250. Alot of time and money has gone into this truck. Slowly restoring it. Solid fan isnt terrible. Truck runs nice and cool

Yeah, it would definitely run cool. I've seen a couple of thrown blades so I'm just gun-shy. Nice truck!

Ive never herd or seen that happen before but im just recently getting started into building vehicles. Worst part about the solid fan, from my experiences atleast, is changing the timing while it is running. Ive hit the fan a few times by accident and boy does that hurt.

Back before electric fans and FWD cars took over, a lot of folks would convert their fan clutch to a solid connection for various reasons. Sometimes it was to save a buck, sometimes to get more cooling for their engine, sometimes for the sound, etc. etc.

The problem is, many of those fans were designed to spin up to 2,000 to 2,500 RPM as the fan clutch limits them to that speed. When they are then asked to spin to 3,000+ RPM n a regular basis, some will let go. The few I've seen let go from a crack around the rivets.

Also, a weak/tired/inadequately-designed water pump bearing will get tired of the vibration a lot sooner, and a solid fan will rob your engine of some power as well.
