Welcome Mark - you can learn a lot from the members here, as I have over the past 18 months. Someone is going to ask you to post pics soon, and I'd like to see them too. From what you say I'm assuming your truck is a Mercury.

I'm working on 1950 M68 Merc truck, and I discovered a few months back that the Ford truck lights don't fit. Ford trucks have the lights mounted in the grill, and they are a different shape than the Mercury lights mounted on the fenders. That's not to say you couldn't make them work - people here do amazing things - but it's not a "straight out of the box" situation.

We found that we could clean up ours with sandblasting, and they are back in the truck - don't know the status of your lights at this point.

Yes, like using periods! LOL! Sorry about that I couldn't resist. I'm a retired teacher.

But seriously, welcome to FTE, the best Ford Truck Forum on the world wide Web!

And we need pics of your Merc.

Pictures of our lights before clean-up

Follow-up on my post, Mark. Here's pictures of the truck, and status of the lights before sandblasting. They cleaned-up great, except for the clips. We used screws to put them back in place.

I may be wrong, but those lights look the same as those used on '46 - '48 Ford and Mercury cars. No?

1946, early 1947 Ford Passenger Cars: Park lamps are rectangular (pictured in post 6).

Late 1947, 1948 Ford Passenger Cars: Park lamps are round, located below headlamps.

1946/48 Mercury Passenger Cars used different rectangular parking lamps, may be the same as Merc trucks.

Do you need the whole light assembly or just part(s) of it? The glass looks suspiciously like the 1946 Ford passenger car parking light lens. As Mixer man and FortyNiner noted it is likely you could use parts of that assembly on your truck.

Yeah - fortunately I didn't have to replace the glass and chrome external pieces. When I was looking there was nothing available - I understand Mark's challenge, with the Mercury trucks being more rare than the Ford's from that time. The glass pieces at least do look similar on the Merc cars shown above.
