ZF5 for E40D swap anyone?

got a 95 F250 w/ a 97 7.3 powerstroke turbo diesel, ZF 5 speed trany that sometimes has a little trouble getting into reverse.

I'm restoring the truck & would like to swap the ZF5 for an E40D. I'll include dual mass flywheel, which I just had cleaned & resurfaced at machine shop, shifter (and associated parts) and linkage

I know the ZF5 is better but its easier for me launch the boat w/ an auto vs manual.

so...I'm looking to see if anyone out there would like to swap.
I'm in Bloomfield, Indiana

Also, anyone who may have done before...any lessons learned you'd like to share?!

Much appreciated
John

I don't think you should have too much of a problem with that. I would post up in the diesel section where you'll get more traffic.

I am interested in swapping. Where are you located? I have a nice auto out of a '97 with a remote cooler and filter that I would trade for a manual.

hey Pappawheely

I'm in Bloomfield, IN

I can send pics if your interested.

bought the truck from a kid who jerry-rigged the fuel system. pump & regulator were aftermarket, not designed to work together, & he cut the steel lines from reg to heads & replaced w/ standard gas fuel lines. I drove it for half a year before deciding to replace the fuel system. couldn't get the turbo off while in the truck so decided to pull the motor. truck had over 250k so decided to rebuild the motor. In the process of doing that now. And...just like I always do, once the motor was out, decided to go all the way & do a complete resto. The wife keeps reminding me that we could take a nice vacation w/ the $$ I spend on vehicles but can't help myself! haha

like I mentioned earlier, the last few months I drove it, it was increasingly getting harder to put in reverse. Didn't happen all the time but could tell it was gonna need work soon. I just assumed it was the tranny but could've been a linkage issue. not absolutely sure at this time.

anyway...if your still interested, let me know.

Thanks
John

More likely a clutch or hydraulic's issue. When it refuses, try shutting off the engine and see if reverse engages easier then.

Bloomington always reminds me of Breaking Away, funny-@ss movie. Visited a couple times when we camped at Brown County State Park many years go. That's a real pretty part of the state.

Thx madpogue

I got the trany pulled from the truck & looking to put an E40D in so wont get to test your advice but appreciate it nonetheless.

Bloomington is like the big, little town in our area. I'm about 40 mi W of there ina an even smaller town called Bloomfield. We do like it out here in the Indiana country!

Thx again
