Cigarette Lighter Removal on 2000 F250 Super Duty
If you need to remove the cigarette lighter receptacle (not the powerpoint plug) on a 2000 Super Duty, follow these steps: Remove the hook panel on the lower dash next to the lighter (two bolts). Unplug the wire in the back on the lighter (squeeze one tab). Reach behind the lighter receptacle and angle it slightly downward and push towards the rear of the truck. The lighter will pop out. FYI-the lighter receptacle itself has two tabs on the black collar holding it in the dash. Not sure what other model years this style covers.

The mobile phone charger was not charging through the cigarette lighter socket although the light on the charger was lit. I tried the charger in the powerpoint receptacle and the phone charged properly. I changed out the cigarette lighter socket and the phone is charging properly now.
By the way, the lighter socket was less expensive at the Ford dealer (around $11) than on Amazon. Go figure!

I removed mine to add this...
My new head unit did not have an auxiliary port so I did this instead of drilling holes in the dash. The USB port and auxiliary port connect to the radio so I can charge stuff and play music from a USB drive.
Plus I don't smoke

FYI, it is not a Ford part. I got it off Amazon and should have posted that in my original post. Here is the link to it...

There are others like it too that have dual USB's if you do not want the aux port.

I am intrigued by the usb/aux plug that Yama4fitty linked, but I'm using the stock stereo (with an adaptor module that converts the CD changer into an aux port), so I don't have a USB connection to plug it into. Has anybody wired this plug's USB port to the cigar lighter wiring (with some sort 12v to 5v converter) so it could be used as a power port for phones and such?
