Steering HELP

Hey there, I have a 1974 f250 with a 70 body on it. In my restoration process I'm also tackling the none working power steering. First things first: can anyone name the part that connects the tie rods and also has the 4 power steering pressure hoses into it? It is some kind of steering arm, or idler arm, or something of the sorts. Now next: can anyone point me in the direction to find an after market replacement? I have searched rock auto, and eBay and no luck. THANK YOU!

Also, I forgot to mention that when this truck was on the farm the previous owner seemed to have no use for the bad power steering and welded one of the moving parts solid, so a rebuild for me right now is not possible.

Maybe this will help or at least get you going in a direction. Garrison or Bendix set up.

"Highboy steering was either manual (1967-1977.5) or optional power ram
assist (1973-1977.5). The power ram assist steering is problematic due to
its complexity with numerous hoses that get hit by road (or off-road)
debris, and the parts are now expensive and rare. There were two
different types of power ram assist steering on the Highboy: Garrison and
Bendix. Highboy steering, manual or optional power ram assist, is very
susceptible to bumpsteer. Many owners find it most desirable to convert to
crossover steering."

Hello Macscustoms, being that your truck is a '74, it could have either the Garrison Power Assist system in it, or the Bendix Power Assist.

This is info I copied from a post from our resident parts guru NumberDummy:

Garrison Power Assist P/S: 1973/75 F100 4WD / 1975 F150 4WD / 1973 F250 4WD / 1974 F250 4WD before serial number T80,001.

Bendix Power Assist P/S: 1974 F250 4WD from serial number T80,001 / 1975/77 F250 4WD (High Boys).

That said, please know that even if you chase down all the various parts for either of these systems (some are virtually unobtainable), and since yours has been messed with bigtime, I doubt you will be very happy with the finished system. Some really like their original system, but lots of Highboy owners replace their Power Assist with crossover power steering.

Use the advanced search function and look up various threads on the merits of all the systems. But have some aspirin nearby, you will probably need it.
