we did have large auxillary coolers to try and keep the heat down but packaging in the e series is pretty tight and you can only do so much. The filetrs were changed simply because many of the pans didn't have drain plugs and the pan was already off draining fluid so it was a no brainer. I have never seen a clogged filter on one of these unless tranny was already junk.
