French Flathead Fuel Pump Install.

I bought a French fuel pump because I like priming levers on pumps. I thought I could use the bottom section of the pump with the stock top half. The bolt circle is slightly smaller so that idea went out the window. Since I have it and my pump needs rebuild I may as well use it.

PO modified fuel line. I had to get some longer hose. Works great, no leaks but, press is 4 PSI. I need to drop it.

Good job! I don't know how well Ford Nuts seal under pressure, sounds like they must work OK.

4 psi at idle won't hurt it if you have a good needle and seat. It likely drops at higher RPM.

Thanks Ross, I wasn't sure if anybody would be interested in this. Just thought I'd post it in case somebody had the same idea I had.

The Ford nuts were a pain in the a$$ to get to seal. The 4 PSI ended up being a problem at idle. I have one of the new style float valves. I can see the top gasket getting wet and it started to blubber a bit at idle.

I ordered a Holley low pressure regulator and I'll probably change to flared fittings. What do you think, set it to 2 PSI ?

2 to 2.5 should be fine, but I'd ditch the needle and seat regardless. When you shut down on a hot day, the pressure jumps up in the line to the carb, you don't want it to push past the needle and flood the engine. If you need a set I have a bunch of used all-brass that I don't need.

I'm a big fan of putting a metal-can filter between the pump and carb. If you do that, you could use hose nipples on the carb and pump and use short lengths of (ethanol resistant) hose.
