95 FSuperduty running rough

i recently bought a 1995 FSuperduty with 130,000 miles on it. It seemed to be running pretty well but I noticed 2 of the glow plug/ injector pig tails were burned up a little so I replaced them. I also put a new ebp tube on it and cleaned the sensor.

After that it seemed to start running rough. Today I took the valve covers off and check all the wiring and everything looked good and was hooked up how it was supposed to be.

When I had the intake off I noticed some of the turbo blades were bent and chipped and the shaft had a little play in it and felt a little sticky. I have no idea how that happened.

The truck seems to idle ok but is sluggish on take off and when revving it up from around 1200rpm - 2100rpm it shakes like crazy. I also notice some blue smoke when revving it like that. I haven't heard any turbo whistle at all.

So my my question is does this sound like the turbo going out and that's why my power is lacking or is it something else?

Thanks
Lloyd

How were the pigtails repaired, soldered together or butt connectors? Butt connectors are not a good choice. Did you cut and splice one wire at a time so there was less of a chance to miss wire the plug? Being the miss started after the pig tail replacement, I'd say you problem is in the repair.

Yes I cut them one at a time to make sure they went back together in the same order and soldered them together then wrapped the bare wire back around all of it and taped it all up, I went back through them today just to double check and everything looked good so I re wrapped them.

It coupd ups have been doing it before but it has definitely gotten progressively worse and with the turbo being like that I thought that could be the problem since I can't hear it spool.

Have you checked the valve cover harness itself? If the pigtail had burnt pins then I would be suspect of the valve cover harness as well

did you ohm it out from the IDM connector?

bent turbo blade isnt good, that thing spins fast and is out of balance now
before getting a new wheel for it, you should do a compression test to make sure nothing got damaged internally.

I have not ohm'D it out from the connector but I will try to do that today.

I would say that the turbo is toasted. I have a 99 7.3 and the turbo spins nice and free, the turbo on the 95 feels a little sticky and has play in it.

If the IDM connector ohm's out ok what are the chances it could be injectors?

if it ohms out ok, it could be IDM or injector

A buzz test and then a contribution test could help isolate an injector

Have you tested fuel pressure?

Grab a tire gauge 1-100 psi and test it at Idle and WOT

I like to test it at WOT in third gear with a screw on gauge and length hose to get it out of the hood.
