93 7.3l idi smoke

My truck smokes on cold start. Nomatter outaide temp. It will smoke until normal temps are reached or i can put it in drive and drive a couple hundred yards and it goea away. Its kind of a white smoke. So far i have checked/changed injectors, injector pump, glow plugs, glow plug relay, head gasket. So im pretty much lost because none of it changed it at all. The trucks muffler fell off about 6 months to a year before and ive never replaced it. Anyone think that could be it? Or any other ideas

Where did your injection pump come from?

The problem is, white smoke is generally majorly retarded timing. Like 6 degrees at least.
You can usually 'work around' the problem by loosening all the IP injector lines and rotating the pump as far as you can towards the passenger side. This should get you advanced enough to at least see that this works.

Indeed my worn out original pump smoked white/gray all the time to varying degrees when I got it. Finally checked timing and it was at 6.5*. Set it to about 9* and the smoke mostly cleared up. New pump and injectors set at 9* cleared up the rest. Still get some white smoke on cold start in winter temps but it clears up pretty quick.

If you recently had a shop put a new pump on it ask them what they set the timing to if you don't have the tools, and have them verify where it's at while you watch. Despite the appropriate timing tools being cheap and readily available most shops don't have them and won't buy them since there aren't as many of these trucks on the road these days. Or just tell them it ain't right and fix it. Could also be leaky injectors if you didn't replace those at the same time, or even if new.
