Ford Sale,Information

Does anyone know if I can email a particular department or person at Ford that might be able to tell me about who purchased my truck when it was new?

Doubtful. Possibly a DMV if you know someone who works there, but the records are probably long gone by now. Not always, but...

Ford doesn't keep that type of info. Some people have traced the info back by talking to the person they bought it from.
If you know the dealership, they might have info, but I doubt it.
Back then everything was paper and very little of that type of information survived.

I was looking for information on my engine rebuild which was done in the late 60's. I called the company that did the work and they had no information for work they did back then.

Most of Ford's original production and sales information was destroyed in a fire in the late 50's.

I was hoping that if I gave the VIN to someone at Ford, that maybe they could tell me something about the truck from a production/ first purchaser point of view.
The paint code on my truck was meadow green, but for the life of me I can't find any green anywhere. I think it may have never been painted that color and was painted as a fire truck right from the factory.

Where do you live? In many states you can perform a title search if the vehicle was first registered in your state. If not, start with the title you received from your seller, and work your way backward through the chain of title and states until you get to the first purchaser.

Michigan charges by the year, so it may prove to be expensive, but it can be done.

Regards, Mark.

None of the OEMs keep records beyond the required 7 years. A guy named Jim Mattison bought all the old records from GM on Pontiac and started a business, Pontiac Historical Services, They charge $65 for the basic package.

I remember talking with Jim years ago and he was appalled at what had happened to many of GMs records. They were just thrown out.

Years ago I went through the records at the old Jeep plant in Toledo (now gone) trying to find specific information on vehicles that were only a few years old. All the records were were just stacked in a room in piles not far from my office. Each vehicle just consisted of a carbonless copy of the original build sheet. The originals went with the vehicles down the line and were placed under the rear seat on some models before they went out the door. Nobody at the plant had any idea where any older records were. That plant had been there since 1887 (they made carriages then). If a plant produces 500,000 vehicles each year you can imaging the storage problem with just one sheet per vehicle. Of course these days with computers storing the data they don't worry about that but that doesn't help with older vehicles.

The Henry Ford museum rescued some Ford records not destroyed by the 1970 fire but I see no truck records listed - https://www.thehenryford.org/collect...ction-records/

At the bottom of the page they do list some old publications and the one of interest to you would be Catalog of Ford Truck ID Numbers, 1946-1972: Pickup and Ranchero. If you search Google by that name it looks like there are lots of old copies available for sale or in public libraries. I didn't see any entire copies online though. Macs Auto also sells them for $25 http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_me...es-399383.html. I'm not sure what is in the book.

Hope this helps,
