Holly,,I can see why you are confused. Most of those ***** are red and black. One is for turning the pto on to the pump and the other is to control the bed. On my truck the pto is on the right and the control is the left one, but that is on my truck. You need to start the truck and let it idle, pull out one of the ***** and if it rakes, like gears grinding that is the pto, if not it is the bed control. Which ever one rakes, push the clutch in all the way and pull it completely out and you should hear the noise of the pto shaft, pull the other **** out slowly and the bed should raise. If you want the bed to stop push that **** in until it stops, pushing in farther will make it go down. Please do not put anything in the bed until you are very familiar with the operation, and at not time get under the bed...

Thanks so much for your help. I am hearing some grinding as described, but after, doing they process, my neighbor said he thought it needed hydraulic oil. I pumped in about 3 gallons, tried The process again, but still nothing. I have 10 gallons of oil. Does it require that much? Also, there already is load of sawdust in the truck. I do have it parked on level ground. Again, thanks so much!

Holly, welcome to FTE, glad you found this site. I think you'll find the help you want. You posted this to the '47 and older group, so I'm gonna move this thread to the Large Truck part of the Super Duty/Heavy Duty page. Good luck, that's a neat looking '68.

Have you inspected the PTO, shafts, u-joints, pump, lines, reservoir, control cable attachment etc? Most should be visible under the truck.

If you can't make this work, I see a snow shovel in your future. Wear gloves. If you have tractor or other loader vehicle, you can drag some out of the back if you are careful.

Did you ever see the bed work? He showed the controls and the bed going up and down, right?
