Bulletproofing my '04 6.0L
#2
I hate to put it this way, but if you're asking those questions, you shouldn't be trying to do what you are right away. You're going to blow a lot of money on things you may not need, and on a truck that's 13 years old (don't get me wrong, they'll run forever if you take care of them).
You should learn the issues with the 6.0 and wait until you start having odd issues. I have a daily driver and I've done a total 4 things. When I say "daily driver", that includes hauling a 36 foot 5th wheel on occasional vacations that cross states. I've done more upgrades to increase my fuel capacity and comfort than anything else so far.
I thought about listing what I've done, but decided against it. My upgrades were either needed due to things breaking or I made minor changes to assist in making hauling easier. I've done more to upgrade the truck's range (fuel tank) and my comfort than I have to the engine.
You'll do better to look at what coolant and oil you're using, taking care of your transmission and not focusing on creating more horsepower. You'll also do good to research computers and gauges, as well as what to monitor.
TLDR: Yes, go do research on the forum.

Welcome to FTE. Congrats on the newborn. I don't mean to sound like a jack ***, but if you can't spend the time to research this topic that's been covered a bazillion times, how are you going to have time to perform the work? There is a 6.0 section here that will serve you well. As stated, the secret to keeping a 6.0 running good, is to monitor things. That should be step 1 for you. Then you can prepare for making better power if that's really what you want to do. To answer your question, yes you can make that much power reliably, but you will have to monitor things and be smart.

Wow 500/600 hp huh? .....that's it? What you really need to do is forget about setting a hp goal and use what money you have to buy the necessary parts to build a RELIABLE daily driver that can get you around safely with your new family. Also, you don't have to read volumes on the internet to see what's needed to bulletproof a 6.0. Most of the articles are basically the same technique and not hard to figure out. Good luck with your modifications.........also no "rolling coal"
