Anybody running the 38 gallon rear fuel tank?

It looks like I'm gonna be replacing the rear tank in my 97 F250. So I hopped on the internet and started shopping around for one. It appears the 38 gallon option is only available for the years up to 1990 if I remember correctly. Is it possible to make this one work, has anyone done it? Thanks again!

Someone on here has done it. He made a thread showing what you need to do.

I cannot remember for the life of me who it was though. I'm sure they'll chime in soon enough.

I ran one on my 1993 idi turbo. Tank was cheap, like $90 I just had to extend the float for the sender with some 308l tig rod, and the pick up and return lines. My filller neck fit but I had a service body. I had to remove my hitch to instal it

Thanks for the replies guys, it looks like it's definitely a doable mod. I greatly appreciate all the tips and tricks. What year tank did you guys use?

I did a 2006 f350 6.0 cab and chassis 44 gal (same as excursion) but did had to modify the frame cross braces and straps but zero modification to fuel lines or fuel level sender (I used the 06 fuel sender) still need to add a skid plate though, and also I can fit 49.5 gallons up to the filler neck.

Glenn, did you install yourself? I'd be pretty interested in this if it's somewhat easy.

Yes I did, its not to tough. You might have to move your tailpipe a little and your spare won't fit anymore. I think it was Richard in Tucson who mounted his spare but it sure did hang down!

I put one in and it wasn't too bad. I didn't pull my bed but did have to remove my hitch and then put it back on after the tank was in. I bought some threaded rod to mod my spare tire mounts to remount it but haven't done it yet. It will hang low but I believe it will still be above the axle. I don't do any serious off reloading so it will be fine for me. It's nice to have the capacity. It not nice on the wallet when you run it down to empty. I think I get almost 40 gallons in.

I also had a buddy help, extra set of hands helped a lot.

I would pull the bed myself. also do the fast fill mod. clean and paint the frame as needed. with the bed off you can mess with the fuel sending unit to get it correct. mine shows empty with a 12 gallon reserve!
I don't feel like pulling the bed just yet to fix it.
