found this in distributor....

Went to put in my new ignition and noticed powdered metal dust and these chunks of what look like vacuum advance springs (?). Gonna take it apart and investigate, but are there rebuild springs/kits available for my 1967 352?

distributor advance springs?

your thoughts? and what happens if only one spring works?

Yes, looks like an advance spring. With only one, it just means it will bring more advance in quicker. Not really a bad thing unless it starts to detonate/knock from it. All depends on motor/fuel quality/driving habits.

Springs are available.

Ya, should be about 3-4 turns to the coils.

Advance springs source?

Turns out its hard to find replacement stock springs. Does anyone have a source? I went to summitracing but their springs are for performance. thanks.

There are two springs, primary (12191) & secondary (12192), but does your truck have A/T or M/T?

They all pretty much fit any distributor, but yes, you need to know what the proper timing curve was to use the correct ones.

Manual transmission, 4 speed. I just opened it up and both springs are gone.

Question, is that vacuum advance adjustable? I was told it was.

Also, I would love to get the casting info from the distributor, but it is behind in a blind spot. I am hesitant to remove it as I would rather keep it in place.

I also noticed the lower back plate 12151 has what look like nylon spacers (3) for the top plate to float on. one is loose. Are there replacements for those?

You'll need to look in the Shop manual to determine the advance curve for your truck/engine/transmission combination.

It sounds a little like you'd be time and money ahead by installing a remanufactured distributor. It will have tight bushings and freely moving breaker plate and also have a vacuum advance can that is more easily adjustable. The factory types are adjusted by removing shims, more modern types like the Crane use an allen wrench through the hose port. Original vacuum cans will often have leaky diaphragms by now.

If I were to get a rebuilt distributor, can anyone suggest a specific model? I'm a newbie and want to make sure I get the correct model. TBH I'd love to keep this original version.

I see several different versions on lmctruck's site:

Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

Or if there is a better source Please let me know.
