Funny thing happened on the way back from Florida

We were on our way back to MO from Fla. We had been pushing about a 10-20 mph headwind. I have a 2002 7.3 diesel. The EGT was running about 900 about 300 above normal. The boost was 10 where it is usually about 7.

After several hours the check engine light came on for about 10 minutes then went off and didn't come back on.

Any ideas what caused this or was it just an anomaly caused by the head wind?

Never had it happen before.

BTW I was pulling my 8300 lb travel trailer at the time.

Thanks in advance, you guys are always helpful.

Frank

900 degrees for a long period of time will throw the CEL (check engine light). Did you have it in tow/haul mode also?

No tow/haul mode on a 2002.

The check engine light means there was a code that's why the light comes in to tell you something is wrong without having the code read all we can do is guess have the codes read the code my still be stored in the computer even thought the light is off. Kansas gray how would the computer know what the egts are or how long they were at a certain temp with out a sensor that would the computer what the egt was. Or is there a sensor I'm not aware of the 6.0 didn't have any egt sensors that talked to the computer and I didn't think the 7.3 did either.

Without reading the codes NOBODY knows why the light was on. There is no EGT sensor.
