Tie rods pooped the bed

Anybody got a part number for some solid ones that will last? Here's a nice video of the new popping noise I hear.

I don't have the part numbers handy, but MOOG makes some regular duty (worthless) ones, and some heavy duty ones that work pretty well.

Napa's private label stuff is (was) Moog and the standard duty ones didn't last at all. The heavy duty ones, which you can see a big difference in when looking at them side by side, did work well.

If you order Motorcraft from Rock-auto it will not come with a nut or castle cover for the cotter pin, I went through this not long ago and had to source through my dealer. The nut on the offer tire rod didn't line up correctly either.

Thanks y'all. Now I'm realizing I don't have the money to fix it fast cuz I'll kick my self for not getting the heavy duty ones. Think it'll do any damage other than to my ears and temper?

You could kill your self if it lets loose. Hows that.

"That" would be terrible. Think I'll park it for now.

After seeing this thread and video I had been hearing excessive klanking similar to what OP showed and have to replace my drag link and center link. Originally I was leaning towards the springs which will also be replaced down the road along with passenger tie rod at a soon but later date. Going Motorcraft from Horizonpartsguy Monday morning.

Well installed the new ones and my ******* accidentally moved the steering wheel during the install, my length was pretty dang close to the stock length and now my steering wheel is sideways. Will an alignment fix this or do I need to crawl back under and mess with it.

like straight is completely sideways.

There is a joint in the middle that has 2 screws and a clamp. Loosen the screws, rotate the clamp until the wheel is straight. Tighten the 2 screws and take it for a short test drive.

Rinse and repeat until you are happy with the wheel placement.

This should help you fix it. When I adjusted mine, I attached a bright green level (on center) with a bungee to the steering wheel. I attached it up high to the steering wheel so that I could see it from down in front of the truck. This helped me to get it close to center and avoid having to get in and out of the truck to check it as much. After this, it just required some small increment adjustments to get it right on. Maybe someone has a better way of doing this, but it works great if your alone.
On Edit: Thanks to the member (Quietman) for posting up this procedure here on FTE..
