auxilliary fuel tank 1993 F-150

Will a standard auxilliary fuel tank fit on a short bed F-150? Any one added an auxilliary tank? Application: F-150 XLT Shortbed standard cab 4x4. Thanks

Do you just have a tank above the spare tire? If so, I'd say the easiest way to do it, is to get a bronco gas tank (32gal or so) and put it in. Only problem is that you can't put the spare tire back, you could put it in the bed for long trips though.

Don't think a stock aux fuel tank for the 4x2 will fit the 4x4 SWB. The transfer case is in the way. I had the same challenge with my '92 SWB 4x4 and finally found an RV place (in LA) that installed a 18.5 gal aux tank between the frame rails. Call around and see who can do it for you...i think the tanks are made someplace in WA state. The strange thing is that Ford offered the aux tank in SWB 4x4's until at least 1987 (i used to have an '86 with it), after that they dropped it...dunno why.

Could be something to do with EFI, EFI started in 87. But there were many changes made from 86 to 87 as it was a redesigning year, they must have changed something and now it won't fit.

I located a place in Chico, CA called FuelTransfer. They also have a great web site. They make a 31 gallon tank that will mount above the spare, but they say the spare will be 4" lower. I think that is my best option so far. I believe they sell the tank kit for $150. Thanks for everyone's feedback.

If you do any kind of off roading thats a bad idea. It decreases your approach angle. Also, the bronco's fuel tank will go in there as well. If that place is gonna charge you an arm and a leg, it might be easier to just put the bronco tank in instead.
