Sorry, but that has all the signs of a hack job. It's never a good sign to see a car with both new paint and rust. It tells me the job was rushed and someone cut corners.

Not having the gutters would be a deal breaker.

Nothing on the engine looks new, except for possibly the carb and the plug wire. The distributor isn't new because it got rust on it.

Never trust a pressure washed engine bay.

Is there any good sites to look for trucks in the 1973-1979's, I have been looking for the past 2-3 months and haven't found any. Looked at 3-4 of them and they all are rusted out. Been looking in the south and there doesn't seem to be any that is not 2wd. Any one have advise. Thanks for all the help so far.

East cost and mid-west are rotted by the road salt. The south has too much humidity. You need a truck from the southwest (dry) or northwest (not dry-but well-taken care of)

Try California, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Craigslist or eBay. Good chance you can get a fellow FTEr to check em out for you if it's local to em

I live in the SE, and 10 years ago, there were 2-3 dents in every junk yard I went to. At the time, I was working on another project, but I ended up getting some nice parts for my dent for cheap - tailgate, bumper, side molding, etc.

About 5 years ago, the price of scrap iron went way up, and all the good stuff disappeared. Still, it seems like every other farm has a dent out beside a barn. But, to really answer your question, I never see any drivers for sale. They are all projects.

Out west

I know it sucks to consider the travel option, but there are a ton of these trucks in the North West, and Ive always wondered why ...... I picked mine up in Oregon last year and trailered it back to Nevada... minimum rust and well preserved...... and patience is key, you can drop 3k on a rusted POS that has been well masked for sale or you or you can drop the same 3k on a truck someone has been rebuilding and keeping clean .... The 'new rebuild engine' trucks go quick but I see them all the time out west.... Good luck, hold on to your cash until you find a gooder, its worth the wait.

that truck would never pass an inspection where i live. rebuilt transmission mean filter change. which shifter do you use ? the one on the column or the floor? and why is the truck only half painted ? i'm guessing to cover up all the bondo on the bed, doors and fenders. walk away from it, there are far better trucks out there in that price range .

now that you mention it that truck could have been an old pull truck. the brackets you speak of are there to protect both the truck and the pull slide when and if they collide. it also explains a ot about why it has no mirrors, marker lights, two shifters etc.
