Loss of boost & black exhaust smoke
Hey guys, I have a serious issue with my 2004 F250 6.0. Pulling a trailer something under the hood sounded like an explosion and lost power and boost. The truck started blowing black smoke from the tail pipe. I could see no psychical damage to anything under the hood. There was absolutely no power but managed to cripple home. Does anyone have an idea of what happen.

Look at your CAC boots. Probably popped one off.
EDIT: In case you don't know what the CAC boots are. Look at your turbo and there is an outlet going toward the passenger side. Make sure that boot at the outlet of the turbo is secured. Follow that tube from the turbo toward your front end and down. There is a boot there too that should be secure. On the driver side is a boot below your airbox. That boot should be secure and hooked to the pipe that goes up to the intake to another boot. All these boots should be attached with hose clamps and an 11mm deep socket will be needed.

The boom is what caused me to think boot popping off or rupturing.
Are you getting any codes or have a way to read them?
Can you start the truck with the EGR valve harness unplugged and see what it does?
Also, start and idle the truck while looking under the hood. Maybe the intercooler cracked or gave way, which could have been the boom. Just thinking a possibility. You should be able to hear if there is air moving where it shouldn't be if that is the case.

Its a 04. Has a metal pipe. Look at the intercooler. It likely ruptured. If you have some way to look at boost it would be obvious. If your building boost then its something else. Do you have any gauges or something of the like that can see boost? If it was a 05+ truck you could look at the dash
