Interesting Observation/Information 6.2 vrs 6.7.

So I spent today taking my Multimedia/Video class on a field trip tp Warner Brothers Studio in Hollywood. The truck geek in me started to notice all the SuperDutys that the studio was using. Being that I made the desicion to buy a 6.2 I pay attention to what motor trucks have in them, again the geek in me. I probably looked at 30 plus truck over the entire day. Now for the interesting part, not one of the trucks was a 6.7. Every truck I saw was a 6.2 or a v10. On one of the last tour stops for the day we happened to stop next to what looked like the studios garage, there was a mechanic working on one of the trucks, so I walked over and asked him about the lack of 6.7's. This was his response "the studio made a decision a few years ago to not buy diesels". He went on to say that in thier opinion the maintence and repair costs were not worth the payoff. They get more bang for thier buck with the gas motors. I found that very reassuring on my choice to buy the 6.2.
Thought you 6.2 guys might like to hear this story.

This is why many farmers/loggers/fleets here in Oregon have moved to the gas platform. It simply saves money and prevents downtime with work trucks. I've been done with diesel for over 2 years now, and I love it.

I was a mechanic.. worked on several fleet contracts....

before retiring... I did my research.. stuff I worked on and talked to people who make the chooses the fleets gets.

type and brand...

my several year research was GAS and FORD....
2011 to 2015 F 250/350 and the 6.2L. I retired before 2016 came out.

I see this all the time with utilities around here on Long Island - hardly a single diesel.

Fleets do not care how fast you can get up the hill. They only care that you get there

Wages for drivers taking an extra few minutes to get up to speed, or climbing a hill, or whatever, do not make up for the extra expense of a diesel.

One or two DEF in the diesel tank incidents will negate any operating advantage the whole diesel fleet has for a year.

I'd like to see Volkswagen man up and admit to something rather than have ads saying we are working hard to earn your trust.

Just this winter with the people we travel and camp with, one before they left to meet up with use on Yuma had the turbo in his 2010 Dodge go out after 120K miles, after $5K it still didn't run right so he bought a new Ram, he found if you have a Ram it takes a lot of $ to move to a Ford. The second couple with a 06 Duramax had a CE light, the last I heard (We left that park) it was going to be $7K for a new turbo and other parts to get it out of the shop. Want to guess why I'm a gas fan.

Diesels will always have their place for the commercial guys, the guys that truly pull heavy, and the ones that want to go fast for some reason in an 8k lbs truck, but for most of us, the gas is the smarter choice. And I feel more and more people are getting smart about it. Unless something major changes in my life, I'll never have another diesel truck.

+1 million

I read so much here "once you have a diesel you'll never go back"

Who do they think we are?

Here's another interesting observation. In the 6.7 section they won't touch a diesel nightmare horror story thread. They'll let it sink faster than a 460 long block kicked overboard.

I had diesel for the past 16 years. Loved my 7.3L. It never gave me a lick of trouble. But I needed a newer truck for the mileage we are going to do with us getting back into showing. After running numbers, gas all the way. I would need to be towing over 15,000 lbs on a regular basis before I would consider a diesel.

And another is getting chastised in the 2017 forum for not selecting certain options due to cost and potential for unreliability. Heck, the 6.2 forum is full of guys who have not selected certain options due to cost and reliability concerns. Apparently, y'all are just scared of technology.

That's not true, I opted for steering wheel audio controls which gave me the base SYNC, if that's not cutting edge technology I don't know what is...
