Deck height increased (by ,022", I think) back during the first wave of emissions in the early '70's.
Detonation wasn't much of an issue when you could still buy 99 octane leaded at every pump.
Of course in pre-OPEC days regular was $0.35 a gallon too
No
022 *increase* on top of the old 010 + a 045 head gasket = 077 which is TOO MUCH!... with iron heads at least.
Figure out what the compression height of your intended pistons is.
Rethink your combo or deck your block once you have the rotating assembly in hand.
Or, like I said, buy a proven kit from one of the experts.
The cost is not going to be more than buying random parts yourself and having the machine work done.
Their knowledge and advice is priceless.
i looked at scotts build. they are using the scat rotating assembly.. now i will still wait for a reply from him before pulling the trigger.. but any how the scat rotating assembly should be -38cc piston d shaped.. the heads are 74cc.. now that would be really bad givin the other infor you have said.. but the ohter thing i have to bring it up is the longer stroke. they used 22cc dished piston and had more compression than i wish to.
He will put together a package that works for you.
If your stated goal is 'the most power I can get out of 521ci on pump gas, for the street in a 4,500# truck rolling 33's' he will sell you pistons, cam, distributor, etc to meet your needs.
Just because you're not comfortable with however much compression you think it calculates to says nothing about what cam and timing he's using to make it work.
