Installing Custom Cab Interior Trim on a 1955

I am trying to install the thin stainless trim that goes on each door and along the dash on 1955 Custom Cab F100s. I bought new trim and retainer clips but cannot for the life of me get the clips to work. The wire on the new clips seems much stronger and the bend of the clips make them too wide to fit in the holes of the door. I have tried everything I can think of to get them to work to no avail.

Has anyone else had similar issues and if so what did you do to resolve it?

Thanks,
Alan

I have bought quite a few parts from LMC because I too can pick them up locally and have found their parts to be generally no better or worse than things purchased from other suppliers.

I found the solution to issue shortly after posting this. I first made some replacement clips from some softer wire that I had and those worked OK but not like what I wanted so I went back to modifying the clips they supplied. I had to compress the widest parts of the clips with pliers then shorten them slightly. After several attempts at doing that and then using needle nose pliers to help "start" the clips in the holes on the door and dash I was able to get the trim installed.

It is nice to be able to drive across town and get a part that I need plus it does not hurt that they are not that far from one of my favorite BBQ places. Good BBQ and old trucks...does life get any better than that combination?

Actually Oldwi you are correct as a lot of times only one manufacturer makes these parts and the vendors buy from the same. Maybe I will try them again as I do like to look at the part and put it in my hand before I purchase it and I can do that with them now what bbq place are we talking about ? I love the burnt ends at Jack Stack in Martin City also keep us posted on the trim as mine has the custom trim.
Thanks

Being able to see the part is nice. I purchased some of my larger parts from them to save shipping and some interior parts because I can see them. I have been happy overall with their service and parts even though patch panels and other things often need some work to fit right.

As for the BBQ place I am referring to it is Joe's KC or what used to called Oklahoma Joe's. They have a location on 119th Street so it is not too far from LMC and since I live up towards the Liberty area of KCMO I usually try to combine my trips to LMC with a stop some place for BBQ. I too am a fan of Jack Stack and my son works at the Plaza location. We are fortunate to have a lot of really great BBQ places in KC and I have many more to try out when I get a chance.

I was reading your old post regarding the dash trim clips not fitting into place. Did you figure out a way to get them to work?

My fingers are bloody and I broke 4 of the new clips.

I about to drill out the holes to make the bigger but I thought I would see if you had a better idea first.

Thanks
Rick

Pirrott, this thread goes back to 2017. Maybe you should start a new thread and ask your questions. Good luck.
