89 F250 7.3 Diesel no start issues

Hi folks.........this truck has been nothing but trouble since we got it but, my step dad just won't let go of it. It seems like every time I fix one thing, something else breaks. First it was the turn signal switch, then the key switch plunger, then the fuel gauge, then the starter, then the ignition coil (glow plug module thingy).

Now, it acts like it's enough fuel to start. When turning it over, it'll try to fire off a couple of times but doesn't.
I was told all of the fuel lines were replaced before we got it and I recently replaced the fuel filter.

I was considering testing the fuel pressure at the filter schrader valve but, all I have is an automotive test gauge that only goes up to 100 psi and I'm pretty sure diesel systems produce more than that. Can I use this or do I need one specifically for diesel systems?
Also, what should the fuel pressure be at that location? It's the only schrader valve I've found so far.

You'll have a lot more luck posting in the Diesel section.

Are you getting fuel from the schreader valve while cranking? These trucks have issues with leaking return lines allowing air in and causing a no start until the system bleeds itself after a LOT of cranking.

Have you tried plugging in the block heater? A lot of no start issues on these trucks goes back to glow plugs not working.

Fuel pressure at that schreader valve should be about 4-7psi, the mechanical lift pump runs up to the filter and feeds the high pressure injection pump from there.

After reading your post over again I'd say you probably need to replace the return lines and injector o rings, they sell a kit for them that's usually $30-$50. When you put the new o-rings on coat them liberally in lithium grease. I just did mine a few weeks ago, takes about an hour or so.

fuel pressure at schrader valve on filter head should be between 4-7 psi, and delivery should be 1/3 pint in 10 seconds crank time.
