Scotty, very clever idea on the instrument regulator mounting. I had that type (Ford CVR) and found the gauge needles moved around a lot as it cycled to make 6 v.
Cole-Hersee solenoid. Just like the 6 volt OEM only 12 volt. Doesn't care about polarity. #2 goes to starter button, #1 goes to the starter motor.

Glad you guys cleared up the single wire starter button for those that have them.

Ross, I didn't run it very long but my gauges seemed steady and in normal range.

Scott where did you get the voltage reducer when I search VR-1 all I find are the ceramic ones. I used to have some like you used years ago but can't find any now. Thanks Jim

NAPA calls them instrument regulators, their part # is IR-1. Not that I particularly recommend theirs, they are not super quality, and they've gone from $15 10 yrs ago to $62 now?!?! Your Ford dealer might be a better source, but I don't have a p/n. Or if there's a boneyard with 60's Fords in it, grab one out of those. Personally, the electronic regulators look better to me.

Jim, I looked up my eBay history and it is listed as 1966-1969 Ford Lincoln Mercury Instrument Panel Voltage Regulator Stabilizer U.S.A.

Ross is correct the the larger converter I used for my wiper motor is probably best. If I have any trouble with the small one I will just tap into the large one. I already had the small one on hand so I used it.

The small one "I think" cycles between a range of voltage and the large one is a steady 7 volts.

They work just like a turn signal flasher, pulsing 12v and 0v 50-50, so it averages out to 6v. Sorta....

So far my gauges look to be operating in their normal ranges. I only drove it a day or two though. Working on A/C right now. I figured if it worked for Ford it should work for me.

I really like how much detail you have added to this and look forward to putting it into use on the 55 F350. Have one question though, would the electronic regulator work for all of the gauges, heater, wipers as well as the fuel gauge sending unit?
Thanks guys

Rick, as long as you do not exceed the amp rating. So maybe not all of it. The heater motor is probably the biggest load. Not sure what the wipers draw.

The eBay seller billdewey is where I got mine. He would be best source of info on his product.

Thanks Scott I went searching and found 2 old ford truck dash panels I had and both had one so I hooked one up and it seems to work fine. What did you use for your wiper motor?

One question on a 12 volt negative ground system what terminal does the wire from the distributor go onto the coil?
