engine weight impact on towing stability with 2017?

Currently towing a 24 ft enclosed car trailer with a 2013 F150 crew cab ecoboost max tow. Trailer scales in at between 8000 to 8500 lbs depending on what tools and gear I load with the car in the trailer.

The F150 does fine with power and braking, but feels soft / less stable than I would like. Have tried various sway control and currently have a propride setup but don't have much time towing with it.

I used to tow the same setup with a 2009 crew cab f250 6.4l diesel and that towing experience was a total pleasure to drive. I unloaded the F250 due to issues with the 6.4. Don't get me started on that subject.

I am contemplating buying a 2017 SD to get back to a more stable platform. Setting aside the significant torque differences between the 6.2 gas and the 6.7 diesel, would i experience any less driving stability with the 6.2 gas, simply due to having less weight over the front wheels? I know a heavier truck will be more stable generally, but with all the weight up front with a diesel, will I notice any thing different?

I'm certain I can recreate the great towing experience with the 6.7 but I'm not sure my trailer weight merits getting the diesel and spending the extra $$.

Thanks,

Tim

The Super Duty with the 6.2L will tow your trailer like a dream. I'd still opt for the 4.30 gears, but the 3.73's will also work.

The weight of the engine isn't really what affects towing stability...its the wheelbase, overall weight, suspension stiffness, etc.

One rule of thumb is that the longer the wheelbase, the better the towing stability. A Crew Cab is more stable than a regular cab, etc.

I towed weights similar to yours with a 2012 F-250 and a 2015 F-350, both with the 6.2L, and both with 3.73 gears. Both towed just fine.
