94 302 4x4 EAOD Rod Knock

Hi I've got 1994 f150 4x4 with 302 HO FI EAOD and it got a rod knock last year. I just bought a 302 carbed engine( dont know if its HO or not) married to an AOD that was put in bronco(was in a fire) that originally had 351.

. I just don't know if I should or will AOD (no info on if it's strong or not) mount to easily to existing transfer case on f150. Or if carbed 302 will work with EAOD. And i dont know if I was to switch from carb to EFI what that all entails, don't know if firing order is the same. Also can get 460 motor and transmission but than again don't know what all that entails, any info would be great thanks.

A carbed engine will work with an E4OD if you get an aftermarket transmission controller. PCS and Baumann are two companies that make them.

Couldn't you just use the carbed long bock and keep the rest of the '94 drivetrain?

That AOD is a light duty trans and probably wont last very long in a truck.. I would suggest you repair what you have, as a controller to use a carb with the E4OD will run in the neighborhood of $400-$500 new. You might do better on the price if you can find a good used one, but I'm betting that won't be too easy as you don't hear about many of them used.. If all that was wrong with the original engine was a rod problem and the top end was OK I would just put a short block in there and call it a day...

Thats what I am thinking too. The E4OD is a good trans, especially if it's ever been brought up to 95'+ spec's.

What year is the carb'd motor? I'm wondering if it's flat tappet or roller lifter.
