Been out of the dentside game

Bought this one about 3 yrs ago from 2nd owner

Over the last 2 yrs i slowly have Put lift tires wheels on it, lots of front end and brake parts, master, booster etc. man i forgot what turds these 351m are stock! This is original engine with less than 97,000 on it, few exhaust valves are struggling to seal. Smog stuff was gone when i got it. Retuned the motorcraft and dizzy best i can for lack of egr.

Having all those 460's in my other dents spoiled me! Got a parts truck im going to use the 400 to rebuild and put in her place. Thought i might share with you guys, pulled her out of the garage today to do a little tweaking.

Pic of the gutless wonder!

My initial thought is to leave it alone, but just took a drive to remind myself why. 55 mph slight grade up here in north ga = downshift to 2nd and WOT to maintain speed. Id be better off with a 2v 302 lol

Truck rides and drives great for what little work i have put into it compared to me previous dents

I am biased, but that 79 blows your other two trucks away in that picture

Welcome back! I remember thinking your orange truck was one of the best on the internet, back in the day.

Straight up timing set, alum intake and good 4bbl, not as much a dog.

How is your axle gearing running those military take off 37's?

Welcome back around.

i agree but she also needs valve seats done as well, which lends more to her anemic state. I thought it thru a few times, but with a good running core 400 available im not going to waste my time when i can have more stroke and compression for not much more $.
I did not know 351 cubes could be so neutered, makes the tired n/a 6.9 in my 87' feel strong pulling heavy 38's

If this wasnt the wife's truck, i would drop a turbo 6.9 and 5 speed in, but she wants the gas v-8 , pep, sound and smell like the 78' she drove in HS

It just has Just open 3.50 rear, will be good match with the 400 and slush-box. Truth be told the power was so bad with the 33's that came on the truck i cant really tell much difference with the "37's".

Hah thanks Ted, I put a hell of alot of time and $ in that truck but i still dont regret selling it believe it or not. You should see it now, the only thing left of it is the firewall and pieces of frame, everything else is tube and coil overs.

progress is going to be slow on this one!

the stock 17 is the tallest cab of them all!

looks good.

351m is terrible...just not enough cubes IMO.

I know it, it fits thru 7' garage with under an inch to spare with the toyo's on. They all just barely fit! The grade difference makes the 78 look shorter!
I agree on cubes, if i didnt already have the 400 it would be another 460!. But this one wont be seeing any real wheeling, thats what the 87' is for.

Speaking of my old dent sides, anyone on here know this guy?

I stumbled on this video last weekend, this is the truck i bought in Montana in 1999 and brought back to Georgia.
I Lifted it, built a motor, 3/4 tons, bed-liner, tint, steps exhaust, the weld super single II's etc. Plus all the little things here and there.
Then I swapped the half tons back in before i sold it in 2002. The guy i sold it to only kept it a year or two and i don't know what happened to it after that.
I can see all the little things on this truck and know it was mine, too obvious. I never really regretted selling it because it was too clean and nice for what i wanted to do. Looks like its still nice, but definitely the years have taken some toll.
Heres some old photos

37's and 4"

35's and 4" like it was when i sold it

Nothing looks more business to me than a set of swamper boggers.

the only thing more business is a cut bogger and the HP & drivetrain to turn them properly

some 4.56 gears might wake it up a bit. 3.50s and 37s is like having overdrive....lol

I'm putting 35s on mine and regearing to 4.10...mathematically it keeps me about spot on from where I am with 3.50s and 31s.

Truck is in the shop getting gears now (and Detroit locker, front LSD, upgraded shafts, etc )

But yeah, the 351 is no beast.

If my old 89 f150 with 300i-6/c6 and 2.73's can pull 33's better than a 351 w/3.50's and light weight 37's theres a problem, haha

Believe me i am well versed on gearing i always say go one set lower than the math to make up for the weight. If i did anything with it i would go 4.56, but whats the point if it just sees malls and grocery store speed bumps, hah

Anyone have some good reads on 71 400 flat tops, vs 351c flat tops, vs tmeyer flat tops and quench / compression?
Ready to get busy with the 400 stump puller.
