I have a 1992 7.3L with 90k miles that was long ago installed into a 1989 F250. The truck is pretty much trash but the engine is good. Trying to decide if there is a market for the engine or do I need to have it all hauled to the salvage yard?
Always a market for running engines, but it may take a little while to sell it. If you were in the NW I'd consider it as a spare.
Have you looked on Craigslist recently? There are some good deals in OR right now. Some guy had a 6.9 for $150, another dude had a turbod 7.3 for $400. I really wish I had the money and room haha
I'm up in north Idaho, and buying engines in that range myself - picked up a couple of 6.9's for $150 each, and a whole running, but dented, 88 turbo truck for $1K.
I'm always in the market for good deals up here, but most of the really good stuff is cross-country from me.

There was a $150 one in Paso Robles, Ca., and the $400 one I think was in Eugene, Or. That one the guy had completely replaced every thing, but had a coolant problem they could not fine.
There was a $600 one also in northern Ca, think around Eureka.
I wanted to get all three. LOL But ya know how procrastination gets into the way.
These old IDI`s are getting kind of long in the tooth, and parts becoming more scarce as they are being dragged in to the PNP type yards and crushed.
So yeah LKJOHNSON6, those parts are valuable. Problems are usually the parts and the buyers are always on the opposite sides of the country.
Thank you for responding. I may check with a neighbor about removing it from the truck and just send the truck to salvage. It seems like a sin to send the motor to the salvage yard. Even if I give it away, I will feel at peace. I am in the Dallas area, there may be someone on a ranch somewhere that could use it. It runs good.

I'm in the SA area. I wouldn't mind having a spare.

Whats local. I drove 200 miles to get this one. But this was my mistake. bought a running and driving truck to do the 7.3/zf swap in my 85 but bought a truck two years too new. Gonna sell or swap all the rest.
