Unhappy URGENT: Rear Axle Center Line

I don't want to get into the story, but let's just say I pulled a dumb move and didn't mark my original centre line assuming the TCI directions were detailed for a '57. They are not. That "assume" word bites you sometimes...

Anyways... does someone with a '57 Body Builders Book have the measurements I can use to confirm the centre line of the rear axel off of frame references only. The frame is stripped. So if you can provide mounting hole references, rivet reference points, etc that would be awesome.

Also a picture speaks a thousand words if available.

PS it is a short bed F100.

Cheers,
Aaron (aka learning from dumb mistakes)

I have a copy of the 1957 Ford Body Builders' Layout Book. The print is very small and doesn't scan worth a nickel. I can either snail mail you copies of the F-100 pages, or post whichever specific measurements you need. If you want copies please private message me with your name and address. Stu

Hey Stu,

I sent you an email from one I found from another thread.

But if you can post measurements, that would be excellent. Ideally going from the front mounting bracket rivets - any of the four. From the rear box body mount hole. And if you can think of another just for cross reference sake that would be ideal. Maybe from the centre of the cab rear mount hole?

Cheers,
Aaron

I think is makes sense for me to mail you a copy. I don't see measurements to specific mounting holes. Stu

The measurement that looks most useful is the 36.34" distance from the rear of the frame to the CL of the rear axle. Another measurement that looks useful is 35.60" from the rear most bed body hole to the CL of the axle. The body holes forward of the axle are 14.50" and 18.18" respectively. I got your address so will mail copies tomorrow. Stu

You know what, Stu. These were perfect. I went out with my laser measure and was able to find the dead centre line with the following:

35.60" from the centre of the rear bed mounting hole. Confirmed with 14.50" and 18.18" to the immediate front mount holes.

This lines up with where my original bump stops were - now the centre of my C-notch install.

Thanks so much!!!!

Next steps will be determining the width of the leaf from centre to centre and then using this to go out from the middle to determine the mount position of the brackets.

I'll write all this up with pictures as a blog post for future reference...

Cheers,
Aaron
