Brokerage For Canadians INFO

I read this on another site and hope it might help out our truck brothers to the north?

Brokerage For Canadians (ATTN Vendors)

"So today I finally figured out how to avoid brokerage fees from UPS. Which means I can order more things from the vendors on here. Was a VERY simple process. I called UPS with my tracking number and told them I wanted to self clear. They said I would hear from someone in 24 hours. The next day I got a call asking for my email address and they sent me the forms. I went to a local CBSA (Canada customs) office and received a B15 form, after paying my taxes. UPS is just down the street so I went there and picked up my package. A little effort, but the savings were great. I was charged $96 by UPS for brokerage and taxes, I self cleared for $27. So it's definitely worth the effort. I hope this helps."

"I got gouged by UPS for brokerage fees once years ago. I now always insist on shipping to Canada via USPS. It may take a little longer but there are no brokerage fees. Just taxes due on pickup at the post office. So far I have never had a vendor who wouldn't ship by USPS.
When I shipped a cage kit I had it shipped to a pickup point in the US near the border and drove down to pick it up. That save me $350."

Rich, thanks for looking out after our Canadian brothers. When it comes to shipping things north, they can use all the help they can get.

AMEN to that, Mike! Rich, on behalf of the Great White North, we salute you!

Seriously, though - that info will be greatly appreciated by many up here.

That is why I made a new thread about it. Here is the original place.

Brokerage For Canadians (ATTN Vendors) - ClassicBroncos.com Forums

Anything to help out, and please pass the word around up there ok in the Canadian chapters?

A dollar saved on customs, make for another dollar towards the truck.

Thanks Bruce. Even though I don't have that problem, I'm glad that the word will get around to those that can use it.

Thanks to all of our U.S. neighbours for thinking of us Canucks. We take a big hit on the currency exchange to begin with and the brokerage fees can make even the best prices seem ridiculous.

For someone who orders a lot of parts from the States, I don't really understand the brokerage fees stuff.

Anyone have a good link to read up on this topic?

I don't have too many complaints on buying parts. Just the fact that shipping is too expensive unless you're using RockAuto.
