There has been some discussion about following a engine building checklist. Even if you have built hundreds of engines, you can always get distracted and forget something. When I built engines, I made sure I was the only one around. Even at that, we can forget to do something. It only takes one error to make your day a bad one.
I'll give it some thought. It would have to be generic and simple so anyone with minimum experience could follow along. When I build an engine, I blue print it, which would not be needed for the beginner or for someone who just wants a beater. Basic simple form with not torque specs. or detailing. Every engine I build is for racing, and require block preparation, where some steps would not be needed for the general public. A form to build after all machine work is completed and engine is ready for assembly. Cam bearings, freeze plugs, rings fitted, etc. etc. all done by a shop. Most people do not think about checking the clearance on the lifter bores, but to me it's a must. If the form is to complicated, the beginners will get lost. If it is to general, the beginners could miss a needed operation. Maybe that is why it is hard to find a beginners engine building checklist.
Over the years I have been able to help many people build their FE's , so now that I am getting close to the end of my life, I might as well do something to help others with their projects.
I will start on it soon.
