Well after some thought, I changed my mind on wheels. I bought some 18s and 20s. I got the bed removed this evening. Tomorrow after work I plan on removing the running boards and rear fenders. I got my mid 50s catalog in. Awesome information and prices. I did find a 53 short bed that someone tried to do a chop on. The guy sold the bed but has the frame and cab with title for $300. Would be nice just to swap the chassis. Supposed to go look at it Sunday. Not sure how that works if I swap the chassis from a 53. Will it be titled as a 53 then???

I got my rear leaf spring pins removed today. The bushings and pins are worn. Going to order a kit to replace it all. I took apart one leaf assembly and no cracks or breaks. Going to disassemble the other one tomorrow to check it over. Then I get to do it all over again on the fronts. Yay

So I ordered some rear parts from Mid 50. Got a pin and bushing kit, adjustable rear hangers, set of U-bolts, and a roll of spring liner. Also ordered a Proform aluminum rear end cover from Summit. I'm installing an 8.5 10 bolt Camaro rear end. I'll have to wait till next month to order my front disk brake kit, king pin set, and Posies 3" drop leafs for the front. Little by little I guess. I need one rear fender so I asked about shipping quote while on the phone with Mid 50. $200 to $250 just for truck freight. OUCH

Funny thing, my wife gets a text from the retired Police officer who works security at her business. It's a picture of a 53-55 complete truck with junk piled all over and around it. The 2nd pic is of a 56 cab sitting on the ground. He knows I mess with old stuff. I had her text him back to find out if I can get the stuff. Its a friend of his out in the country. I hope he sells me the stuff and there are some better fenders than mine. I worked on mine some more today. I removed the beat to heck running boards and stripped out most of the wiring. It was stiff and brittle.

If you are in no hurry and live not to far from a big show. Vendors often times will haul parts to the show to avoid shipping. At least I think they did that at one time.

I bought my windshield at a show. I didn't pre order, and only one glass vendor had it in stock. So, I was lucky, but it saved me $175 in shipping.

They still do it. Two years ago I got a bed from MidWest Early Ford and last summer I got my valve cover decals from Dennis Carpenter at Carlisle. (Saved a lot of shipping there, huh?)

Just a small update. I took apart my rear leaf springs. I removed the leafs as to Mid50s instructions for removal (lowering). I sand blasted the leafs, painted them, and put them back together with liner and new center pin bolts. I installed the new forward hangers and extended shackles. I have one leaf spring assembly installed but the other side needs assembled. I'm off Friday and my plan is to have it back together and rolling again. I'm going to roll the truck around to the front driveway and shorten the chassis. I'm going to take my new 20" rear wheels to the tire shop tomorrow to get tires. Saturday plans are to remove the locked up stock engine. I'm looking at the new front mono leafs at Mid50. They are expensive but says it drops it 5". Been saving money to get them and a disk brake kit from Speedway. I was going to rebuild my stock steering box but decided to spend a little more and get a power steering box. May put in a tilt column cause I think I have one buried in my shed. I really wanted to keep it simple but I have about 6" of travel on the steering wheel before the wheels move. If anyone is running the mono leafs on the front, I'd like to hear info on them. Good or bad

Got off work early today. Came home and installed the last rear leaf spring assembly. I blasted and painted my 10 bolt rear end. I blasted the lower shock/U bolt mounts and painted them. I sat the rear end on a wheel dolley and rolled it underneath. Went to install U bolts and hit a snag. My lower shock/U bolt mounts won't work. The axle tubes are wider making the lower mounts holes not line up. What do I need to get and where? HELP
