Cab swap/old to new`r

I picked up a 1955 F600, cab and front clip, with a title. good class all around. Anyways, awhile back I also brought home a 98 F550 7.3 turbo six speed, long wheel base, Im a guna lol, strip the 98 of its skin, and keep what I need. Leave the floor and as much of the fire wall as needed. I don`t want the upper part of the 98 fire wall if I can help it, I want to blend the 55 and the 98 fire walls together, I know that "I want" and able to do" are to different things lol I think the most important thing is to have the drive train fit right in the 55s engine bay, have to have the 98s rad fabbed it to 55s rad support. Trim to fit the 98s floor to the contours of the 55s floor size. might have to trim, or relocate the rear cab mounts of the 98 to fit under the 55. Well thats my story, and Im sticking to it"

Anything is possible with enough money and skills, but trying to graphed the 55 cab and firewall to the 98 will be a Major fabrication job. You mentioned that you have a title to the 55, but what about the 98? Check around, but I was under the impression that California sticks to the FRAME Vin for title and registration. In that case you will have to title/register it as a 98.

The F550 is behind this one, I don`t beleive I have to maintain the vin on the frame, to re cert, they sell custom frames all day in the states. Ive been a fabricator for over thirty years now. Any thing is possiable.... if your willing to work hard for it. why buy more sheet metal when the floor of the F550 is there and good? and its a ford to boot" lol

We get asked that question a lot. Some of the guys on here have done it very successfully but I think that they have pretty good fab/welding skills. Most of the ones that are started are never completed and those that are look weird or are unsafe even sitting still in the driveway. Unless you have excellent skills and deep pockets I think that you would be better off selling both trucks and buying one that is not such a challenge.

I saw this truck this weekend at the OKC Fairgrounds. Looks like they just used the dog house from a 52 COE and a smaller truck hood and grafted to the existing cab and lower fenders. very nicely done! I didn't catch it at first glance.

That doesn't look too bad. Not bad at all. What's up with the parking lights not being under the headlights?

I thought originally the owner used a COE, but it appears they may have just stretched the upper and lower valance and the grille to fit the newer truck. Their website says this truck (F-6) was the first mechanical wheat truck used on their farm bought new in 52.

To your question about the parking lights, it seems when they stretched the grille and lower valance, they didn't reposition the park lights.
