Can't back up to 5er with gate down? I can't with my '11, bought a V-gate and it worked well (except you lose the back up camera). I know my '17 (on order) tail gate is an inch or two taller, so I am interested in a new V-gate solution. Hopefully someone makes one soon.

The camera up in the rear brake light assembly would work great for the 5th wheel hook-up.

Tail gate camera

On my 2011 I bought a license plate holder camera and plugged it into where the tailgate camera use to plug in. Works great.

Oh man, I wish I had known about such an animal, instead I stared at a blue screen of death in my rear view all summer.

Heard from Stromberg Carlson

I heard from Stromberg Carlson that they will have 5th Wheel tailgates for the 2017 in a couple of weeks. Watch their web site.

I sent an email to Stromberg Carlson to find out if they have released the new tailgate that fits the 2017 Super Duty. They told me they have and that I need part number VG-15-4000 (Rev 2017). I then called etrailer to order the tailgate but they were not certain they could get the Rev 2017 version. I again contacted Stromberg Carlson and they agreed to send me the adapter kit (2215 Shim Kit) needed for free. I just needed to send them a copy of the purchase invoice from etrailer. I ordered the tailgate and sent a copy of the receipt to Stromberg. I must say, Stromberg Carlson gave me great customer service. Now I just need to receive the new 5th wheel tailgate and the shim kit and make sure they do fit.

I received the new Stromberg Carlson Tailgate and shim kit yesterday. Unfortunately, the tailgate was damaged during shipping. I am now trying to get ahold of Etrailer to arrange for a replacement or compensation.

I just got my Stromberg Carlson tailgate yesterday. Installed on my 2017 SD CC DRW LB. The shim kits space the latches out an 1/8 inch on each side but I found I needed to adjust one of them slightly. The screws on the bottom are very hard to put in with the tailgate on, but you need to have it on to adjust the fit.

I kind of like that, the sides look a little bulky but not too bad. Any pictures of this adapter? Are they just taking a '11-16 gate and putting the adapter on for '17?

They seem to have only made a nylon plate that goes under the latch on each side to space it out. The rest is the 11 - 16 design.

I received the second (replacement) tailgate from Etrailer ealier this week and installed it today. Etrailer was pretty good about taking back the damaged one and sending a new one without any additional charges. The replacement arrived in a damaged box but the plastic sides were not broken. The mental body on the sides was scratched but otherwise it was good. I did add the acetal plastic spacers on each side. They also provide a round disc with a center rectangular hole that slips on the drivers side axel pin and a round spacer rod that goes in the ID of the cylinder that slips over the drivers side axel pin. It is the previous model with spacers added for the 2017. The tailgate required some adjustments and I needed to extend the slotted holes in the side plastic caps. It is much lighter than the stock tailgate which makes it easy to put on and take off. It has a locking center latch release so it can't be easily stolen. Ofcource it wouldn't be too difficult for a determined thief to defeat but it still a lot better than not having a lock. I plan on putting it on when towing and putting the stock on when I'm not towing the fifth wheel.

The acetal plastic spacer is the white piece shown between the tailgate side frame and the latch mechanism.
