Talking Lowered F1 stance and measurements

suspension in process 2014

After my F1 project got shelved due to family illness I am picking up the pieces. It has been a while since my wife passed due to cancer and I am back at the truck. I lost my shop in the process so am relying on several friends to provide space till I get back to square one. I got a good hood from Bob Jones and have that in sealer. Now I am going to build the front suspension. During the move from one building to another I lost or misplaced all the notes I had on dimensions that I had on stance. I recall that I intended to lower the front about 4" and the rear about 3". I think that I have the rear end set at 3" with the suspension finished (rear). The front is another story. I think that the frame at stock ride height should measure about
18.27" at the top of the frame at the front bumper.
21.02" at the top of the frame centerline of the front axle and flat back to the 2" rear kick up just before the rear axle. That should put the top of the frame at the rear of the truck at 23" Could one or two of you guys please measure your stock truck and post your measurements? Also if anyone has a lowered truck could you post your front and back heights? also if you are pleased with the results. I tend to fabricate everything and am developing the measurements and design for use of Crown Vic P71 spindles and ball joints. QA-1 10" coil overs with stock looking offset rims. I am stuck till I get some dimensions. Thanks in advance

fuel tank is bright polished Stainless Steel.

I will have to measure my bumpers but my running boards are 5 1/2" off the ground.

Thanks Dave,

I like the look of your truck The stance is perfect. Is that a Jaguar gas cap on top of the fender? Here is a photo of the box and roll pan (the last thing) I finished before I had to spend full time on Family things. The tubs are 6" and will allow a 16" wide tire under the fender with 1" clearance on each side.

Hi Marty,
Yes that is a jag filler cap, I used the jag IFS in my truck and saved the caps from the donor car. If you do one get the metal from the car that the cap mounts in for an easy install.

My front suspension dropped 4" with the IFS install and probably another two inches once it was settled after full assembly, but I will measure my bumpers today.

This was stock height to the bottom of the front bumper

After the jag install ( no engine, just rolling truck)

Frame measurements from my other F1 stock height front frame rail, gutted truck on rolling frame, no nose, no interior, etc..

After jag install 4" drop, again should be another 2 to 3 inches lower when done.

I have hundreds of pics here in my build threads and hundreds more of other projects here if you want to check them out.

20 gallon tank after clean up and minor blemish polishing.

Dave,

I used the filler door from a 90's Chevy in the fender. here is the pix - - I built the 20 gallon fuel tank out of 16 gauge polished Stainless. I wanted return lines etc in the tank. I have two anti splash doors in the filler as I suspect that fuel will try to travel up the filler in a right hand turn even though the filler is extended to the center of the tank and is vertical to within an inch of the bottom. The baffles are also attached at the filler in an X from the corners to the center. The tank is slightly wedge shaped with the pickups at the rear in the back. either tube can be a return or suction. Did I mention I love to design and fabricate? The tubing frame in the background is the box replacement frame constructed using 1.5 x 2 - 1/16 wall tube.

Finished filler cap in fender side.

Looks good, I have the same style door in my other F1 but it is a door from a S10 pickup. We will see if there are any issues with fuel trying to come out, but I think it will be ok.
Good luck with the build and get er done!

This is a bump to try to keep this going. The measurements that will help me most to get off dead center is the distance from the center of the axle in the rear to the bottom of the frame directly above the axle. Second from the ground to the bottom of the frame at the point nearest to the front axle. Please tell me if this is for a stock truck or for a lowered truck and how low it is if lowered. It's frustrating to be stuck like this. Thanks
