Turn Over But No Start

Hey everyone!

I have a 75 F150 Supercab with a 460.

Just replaced the intake manifold/carb/gas tank/sending unit and it was running a ton better. It has a massive exhaust leak so I have not driven it in a few days. When I last drove it, I noticed the temp and oil pressure gauges weren't working so I purchased replacement sending units. I installed the temp sending unit but like an idiot, forgot to release the pressure from the radiator. I got coolant all over the engine compartment. I cleaned it up best I could, installed the new sending unit, and tried to give it a crank. It turns over but won't start.

I'm assuming since a lot of stuff got wet that is the issue? I'm going to try to give it a crank tomorrow, but I wanted to head this off in case that's not the problem.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Edit: Fuel Pump is less than 6 months old. My other assumption is the choke isn't tuned properly. Not sure how this would be if it cranked fine before.

You need to do a little basic trouble shooting before throwing parts at it.
First, check to see if you have spark. Pull the coil wire out of the distributor cap and hold it about a ¼" away from a good ground. Have someone turn the engine over. You should see a strong, consistent, blue-white spark. If you don't see the spark or it looks weak or erratic, then you have an ignition problem.
With the coolant spray you had, you should pop the distributor cap and make sure there's no moisture inside the distributor cap.
If you have spark, check for fuel. Look down the throat of the carb, cycle the throttle a couple of times, you should see two strong jets of gas shoot into the throat of the carb.
Do those two checks and let us know what you find.

What Mike ^^^ said. Remove that distributor cap and spray some WD-40 in there, (Water Displacement-40). Wouldn't hurt to wipe that distributor cap and rotor down really good too. Make sure the coil is clean and dry too
Check for a good hot spark, and fuel spraying into the carb.

I was flushing the cooling system once and got the distributor harness wet. Stalled the truck right out.

Pull the distributor cap, coil harness and distributor harness. Dry everything out, and use some WD40 as suggested above

Thanks everyone. I just went out to check and there's still a good bit of coolant in the compartment as well as in the distributor. I've wiped everything down and used Q tips in the distributor. I have it opened up and trying to let the sun do its magic. Will regular WD 40 work? Good to know!

Update: I popped the cap open and sprayed WD 40 in the distributor. Letting it sit in the sun. Same with the ignition coil and a couple other wires. Gonna let it sit in the sun the rest of the day and give it a try tomorrow.

Glad you got it fixed.
That's the best kind of repair: cheap and simple .
